Lay it Out in Lavender

A blank canvas offers endless possibilities, but that first brush stroke can be a bit intimidating. Our clients – a millennial couple with a baby on the way – asked us to transform this newly-built house into a home that’s uniquely theirs. They had already purchased the neutral sofa, dining table and benches. We set out to create a cozy and functional space through furnishings, texture and the color of the moment: lavender.

Outdoor views and tons of natural light give this room off the kitchen an airy, sunroom feel. Our clients didn’t need another dining space, so we designed a sitting area for coffee and conversation. The Kubu wicker chairs, lavender-hued area rug and orb light fixture create a fresh and inviting space.

The window cornices are a custom ESD creation. We constructed the middle cornice (it’s 110″ wide!) onsite. Reclaimed wood shelves were added in the kitchen.

The green foliage, barnacle cluster and rustic wood coffee table infuse the space with organic elements.

For baby rocking and snuggle time, we chose two comfy swivel chairs that were stylish enough for the family room. The wood and metal accent tables, geometric area rug and pillows add layers of texture.

These gorgeous linen panels weren’t quite long enough, so we embellished them with lavender fabric banding. A coordinating custom-sized lumbar pillow was created for the sofa. Natural fiber blinds block light for afternoon naps.

Rustic baskets add visual interest and complement other organic accents in the room.

We had so much fun working with the lavender, plum and gray palette. This hip couple’s openness to bolder accent colors paid off. The result is a home that’s serene, inspiring and perfect for their growing family.
